Honestly

Honestly!

A politician’s promise
Is worth its weight in gold.
Only to the giver
Others hopes are sold.

They promise earth
And moon and stars
But promises melt
Like chocolate bars.

When asked of the promise
On election say
“Of course I’ll keep it
But not today”

Before you stop
To cast your vote
Consider first
The gravy boat.

At the end of the day
There are Company perks
Given to heads
Who made the right jerks

Directors of business
With company cars
Drink on expenses
In clubs and in bars.

Laugh with their friends
Toast toes by the fire.
Speak to the people
Who want to climb higher.

Say ex -politicians
To fresh young MPs
“I’ll guide you along
But you’ll have to say please “

“To help on your way
A word in your ear.
Don’t rock the boat
Or you’ll never sit here”

Firm grips are kept
Of the bills MPs pass
The Commons is heated
By natural gas.

Remember this warning
Ere your vote fuels ambitions
There are liars damned liars
And politicians.
